Experience:

~ From 1985 to 1994 I worked as a Registered Childminder, during which time I cared for over 50 children between the ages 3 months and 14 years; endeavouring to be as flexible as possible to fit in with their parents needs.

~ In 1994 I joined Cheshire County Council Social Services Family Centre (Child Protection) as a Care Worker; co-running groups, offering respite and generally supporting families. During my seven years there I undertook much training and completed my NVQ Level 2 in Childcare & Education.

~ Feeling a desire to work more therapeutically with young people in particular, in 1995 I began studying to be a Person-Centred Counsellor through South Cheshire College, qualifying at The University of Salford in 2001 and becoming Accredited by our governing body The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2004.

~ In 1999 I was accepted by North Staffs Mind in Hanley to do my counselling placement, and continued there for ten years working up through volunteer, temporary and finally full-time permanent contracts; initially on the adults counselling team crossing over to the children’s team plus a day per week on Reception. I left Mind in 2009 to semi-retire.

~ Whilst at Mind, I was sponsored to do three levels of Triple ‘P’ Positive Parenting Programme. Triple 'P', which is Psychology and CBT based, was developed over 25 years by the University of Queensland, Australia and was brought to the UK by North Staffs Combined Healthcare and The Children’s Fund in 2003. I was fortunate to be one of the first in UK to be offered the training:
-Primary Care: ............ Supportive strategies to deal with the early onset of childrens' behavioural difficulties.
  -Child: One-to- One ... 3-11years
  -Child: Group .............. 3-11 years
After which I became part-time employed by North Staffs Combined Healthcare, at Westcliffe Hospital, where I was sponsored to do a further four levels:
  -Teen Group: .............. 11-16years.
-Stepping Stones: ...... Children with Special Needs ... 3-16years
-Enhanced: .................. For those parents struggling to put previously completed levels in place; includes home visits.
-Pathways: ................... For parents at risk of maltreating their children.
Between 2003 and 2009 I facilitated Triple 'P' to parents, either on a one-to-one or within small groups, throughout Stoke-on-Trent. Note:  The Triple P programme is offered to the parents, not the children, it is designed to enable parents to make the changes they want to see in their children.

~ Further to the above I have worked in schools supporting children with behavioural problems, offering Triple 'P' and, in a Runcorn primary school set up a counselling service for children, parents or staff connected to the school.

~ In 2001, I began independent practice at The Hope Street Centre in Sandbach, Cheshire offering counselling to adults, couples and young people plus the Triple 'P' Positive Parenting Programme to parents.

~ In January 2014, due to semi-retirement, I chose to no longer offer counselling to under 18's or the Triple P parenting programme.

~ I also work for a number of Employer Assisted Providers, Insurance and Occupational Health companies plus as an NHS agency counsellor and CBT therapist.

~ As required by BACP, our governing body, I have continued with my professional development over the years. Although I am not a qualified nutritionist, I have done much research into the affect of ‘Food’ on our ‘Mood and Behaviour’.

I receive monthly supervision, am police checked to work with vulnerable people plus insured with Howden Professionals.
